Kolhapur just to have the special Bhelpuri. That crazy we are! While
planning an itinerary, I usually first see the places to eat! ЁЯШВЁЯШВ

India is a land of rich and diverse food culture. Each region has its
own speciality and I am always fascinated to hear the story about the
evolution of that cuisine. When talking about the food hub, how can I
forget about Indore. It can easily claim as the foodie capital of India.
The bustling city in Madhya Pradesh is known for its experimentation
with the food. A heaven for vegetarian street food lovers, Indore is a
must visit for all the foodies.
Best time to visit Indore:: September – February.
When I posted about the Bada Ganpati, Indore,
I got so many comments about writing the famous Indore food. So, here
today, I have summarized about the food places you must visit when in

1. Sarafa Bazar ::
Whenever we talk of Indore, Sarafa Bazar tops the chart. A jewellery
market in day turns into lively, busy street food market in the night!
It starts from 9 PM, peaks at 11-12 AM and closes at around 2 AM.
Some of the must try dishes in Sarafa Bazar is the ‘Flying Dahi Wada’ at Joshi Dahi Bada House whose style of preparing Dahi Bada will bring heart to your mouth! Do check out his video…
Also, when you stroll in the market, you will see Jaleba (Huge size of Jalebi), Gulabjamun, Bhutte Ki Kees, Aloo Tikki, Phirnis, Paranthas, Potato Twisters, Pani-Puri, Kulfi, Coconut Crush Soda and what not. If you go in winters, do not forget to try the Bhutte ki Kees (Grated corn cobs) and Garadu (Fried Yam).

2. 56 Dukan :: Another interesting of a most talked
food street in Indore which has 56 food Shops is 56 Dukan. The most
prominent shop at 56 Dukan is the Vijay Chaat House. Do not miss Khopra Patties and Peas Kachori. The joyous owner is happy to serve the customers. Time: 8 AM to 8 PM. You can locate it here.
Nearby is the Prakash Namkeen Centre and Agarwal Namkeen
from where you purchase famous savoury namkeens for your home. My
personal favourites are Ratlami Sev, Khatta Meetha and Farali Mixture.
Also, buy Jeeravan, a must have masala sprinkled over anything to
enhance the taste.

Then there is Madhuram where Shikanji, Pani Puri and Kachori are good.
The most famous food place after Vijay Chaat House is the Johny Hot Dog.
Locals swear by his hot dogs. It is basically a aloo tikki/chicken
tikki between the toasted buns. I found it good but Khopra Patties stays
my favourite. You can also try cold coffee at the nearby shops.

3. Prashant Poha Centre:: Indoris start their
day with Poha and Jalebi, the ultimate combination. You should not miss
the famous Indori Poha, Chai and Kachori at Prashant Poha Centre. Time: 9 AM to 8 PM You can locate it here.

4. Head Sahab Ke Pohe:: The speciality about this
place is the fabulous combination of Poha and spicy curry known as Usal.
I loved it. Located in the New Palasia area, the small cart sells

5. Rasgulla House:: The bestest ever Rasgullas in
the world! Trust my word. The place is owned and run by a lady and his
brother and they make everything from scratch. Rasgullas, Rajbhog are

6. New Ravi Alpahar :: If you are a Kachori-lover
like me, do try the Aloo Kachori and Farali Kachori at New Ravi Alpahar.
You can see them making it fresh. Time: 7 AM to 9 PM Location: here
7. Hotel Rajhans :: Indore is in Madhya Pradesh
which falls in the Malwa region. The staple breakfast is Poha-Jalebi and
the staple food is the Bafla Bati – Dal. We tried one of the finest Dal
Bafla Bati Thali at Rajhans. Quite affordable and filling! Time: 10 AM to 9 PM You can find it here.
8. Shri Guru Kripa Restaurant:: Though we tried the
local food, but Shri Guru Kripa is quite popular amongst locals so had
to try this. It is known for the Punjabi dishes and starters, we tried
the highly recommended Veg Lollipop. Price is a bit on the higher side
but it is worth it. You have to wait for at least 15 minutes to get your
number. Time: 10 AM to 12 AM

whenever you plan a visit to Indore, visit these places to be in food

We are always in a hurry to reach some destination. As our entire
goal is to reach that destination at the earliest, we always (well most
of the time) miss the important milestones which are on the way. I have
passed by this particular road in Sadashiv Peth at least 1000 times
during the past so many years but never got a chance to visit this Laxmi Nrusinh Temple. This time, I planned it explicitly to visit this temple during the break of a sports event.
Shree Laxmi Nrusinh Mandir is located just opposite to Pune Vidyarthi Gruha. It is a two-storied structure with wooden pillars typical to Peshwa Era architecture. From outside one can notice the balcony with a railing supported by balusters and beautifully carved arches.
Though situated on a busy road a single step inside the temple
changes the entire atmosphere. Suddenly the hustle and bustle of the
busy road fade away and a calm soothing feeling grips your mind.
This temple is dedicated to Nrusinh or Narsinha which is considered
as the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. There are very few temples of
Lord Narshinh.
History of the temple: This temple was built in
1774. This idol has been brought from Kashi 250 years ago. A very
learned brahmin who was an expert in ‘Vedic Literature’, Ganeshbhat Joshi
installed this idol on Ashadh Shudha Dashmi Shake 1696 that is in the
year 1774. One can see the exact date written on the exterior pillar of
the temple.
The story goes like this. Mr.Joshi had come to Pune from Sangmeshwar taluka of Ratnagiri district
in search of work. Shree Narsinh was his family deity. He had no idol
of Narsinh to worship in Pune and this made him very sad. One day he had
a vision that Lord Narsinh is in a cactus bush at Kashi. He went to
Kashi with his wife. Though the journey was tedious, he really got this
beautiful white marble idol there. He installed this idol in Pune and
constructed a small beautiful temple. It is said that Peshwa had shown
interest in constructing this temple and offering him the right to
worship but he insisted that God has come to him so he needs to take
care of God. He constructed a beautiful temple out of which old
entrance gate, wooden hall and original sanctum sanctorum can be seen
even now. Wooden hall is decorated with intricately carved wooden
columns and various frames of different gods are put on the columns.
When I visited the temple I saw a few students studying in this
peaceful atmosphere which was a very pleasant sight. The Sanctum
sanctorum contains the white marble idol of Narsinh which is shown
seated in the lotus position. It is four-handed and supporting goddess
Laxmi with one hand sitting in his lap. A carved arch is seen behind the
idol with a silver snake covering the idol with its hood.
Currently, the tenth generation is looking after the temple management. Though the temple is private, it is open for devotees.

Lord Narsinh: 4th Incarnation of Vishnu: As per Padma Puran on the 14th day of Shuklapaksha
of the Vaishakh month of Hindu calendar, Bhagwan Narsinh appeared. He
was having half-human and half-lion form, thus the name Narsinh. As per
the Puranas, Bhakta Prahlad was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. His father, demon Hiranyakashyapu
considered himself superior to even Gods and had become unruly and
boastful. He had received a blessing that he cannot be killed by a human
or bird or animal, he cannot be killed with water or wind or with any
weapon, he could not be killed during the day or the night neither at
home nor outside. Due to this blessing, he had become boastful and was
committing atrocities against his subjects. He did not spare even his
own son and started torturing him for worshipping Lord Vishnu. To
destroy this demon and stop the suffering Lord Narsinh came to his
rescue. He appeared from a column at the twilight in half human and half
lion form and killed Hiranyakashyapu on his lap, exactly at the door
with his nails. Thus Hiranyakashyapu was not able to get any benefit of
his blessing and the Lord saved his ardent devotee Pralhad.
To calm the fierce form of Narsinh, Sandalwood is applied to these
idols, and also water and food donations take place at various temples
of Narsinh across India.
The main place of Lord Narsinh is considered in the Prahladpura temple in Multan of present-day Pakistan. Based on Bhakta Prahlad, the name of the place is called Prahladpura and it is believed that Nrusinh killed Hiranyakashyapu at this place. Mr.Anant Joshi
from the current generation had visited this place a brought some soil
and brick from this place as a souvenir of this sacred place.
Interesting facts related to this temple.
Freedom fighter Vasudev Balwant Phadke used to stay here. It is said that in this time he had kept his sword in front of Swami Samarth of Akkalkot to get his blessings. As per the records, Shreedharswami and Balgandharv have also visited this place.
It is feared that this historical temple might be lost due to the
road widening project so currently there is a movement going on to stop
this.
Hope this temple which an important part of our heritage stays safe and sound and future generations would be able to see it.

1) Trimbakeshwar Temple Nashik –
Trimbakeshwar Temple is one of the most respected destinations
to visit in the Nashik trip since it is one of the 12 jyotirlinga sites.
It is claimed that Lord Shiva emerged as a pillar of light here. Nashik’s holy Kumbh Mela takes place only around this temple. Trimbakeshwar Temple is attractive not just because of its
spiritual aura, but also because it is nestled between three hills:
Nilgiri, Brahmagiri, and Kalahari.
2) Muktidham –
At Muktidham, you can witness replicas of all 12 jyotirlingas.
Muktidham is a magnificent marble temple with inscriptions regarding the
Mahabharata and the life of Lord Krishna, who is also the presiding
deity. The temple, which is one of Nashik’s most popular
attractions, attracts tourists from all walks of life, and the number of
visitors increases considerably during the Kumbh Mela.
3) Ramkund –

Ramkund is a bathing ghat in Panchvati, Nashik’s old city that
is visited by devotees all year. It is said that Lord Rama performed his
father’s funeral rites here. People bring their loved one’s ashes here to be immersed in water in the hopes of finding peace. It’s said that Lord Ram lived his 14-year exile at Nashik. Ramkund is a place where Ram and his wife Sita took a bath.
4) Pandav Leni –
‘Leni’ means caves in Marathi, while Pandav is the later name
given to these caves in Maharashtra. Pandav Leni was initially known as
‘Trirashmi caves,’ but was eventually changed to its current name.
However, these Nashik caves have nothing to do with Mahabharatha or the
Pandavas from the epic.
Moreover, Buddha Leni in Nashik was carved between the 3rd and
2nd centuries AD. The Vihara and Chaitya are the two most important
caverns in the set of 24 caves.
Pandavleni caverns, located in the Trirashmi mountains, are
best explored in the early morning when the sculptures are most visible.
A visit to the Pandavleni caves near Nashik, Maharashtra, is a must.
5) Anjaneri Hills –
In Maharashtra’s Nashik-Trimbakeshwar mountain range, the
Anjaneri fort hike is well-known. It is a major tourist attraction in
Nashik and the Trimbakeshwar area.
Hanuman is said to have been born in this cave by Goddess
Anjana Devi. That is how the mountain was given its name. Lord Hanuman’s
temple stands within the cave. The lord’s portrait has five faces. This
Hanuman temple is unlike anywhere else in the country. Trekking over the Anjaneri hills is the greatest way to
appreciate its beauties. Anjaneri Village, Lord Hanuman temple, Anjani
Mata temple, and cave are among the notable monuments on the hill that
are worth seeing. Apart from Anjaneri Hill, one may hike to Brahmagiri
Mountain.
6) Dugarwadi waterfall –
The Dugarwadi waterfall is one of Maharashtra’s greatest
natural waterfalls. This magnificent waterfall is just 30 kilometers
from the wine city of Nashik and 2 kilometers from the Jawahar Road. Dugarwadi attracts few visitors, which keeps it pristine
and undiscovered. It is a wonderful spot to visit, especially during the
monsoon season, when you can appreciate the pure surroundings and green
meadows all around you.
7) Someshwar Temple –
Someshwar Temple is located on the banks of the Godavari River,
approximately 7 km from Nashik’s main city. The temple, which is
surrounded by beautiful flora, provides a beautiful sight during the
rainy season. The temple features a shrine devoted to Lord Hanuman in
addition to the main deity, Lord Shiva. Visitors can take a tour of the
temple, make a prayer in praise of the lords, and sit outdoors to relax
in the tranquil surroundings of this historic location. In addition, there is a huge 10-meter waterfall that drops
from a large rocky landscape in a single drop. During the rainy season,
from June to September, this waterfall is dangerous for swimming or
bathing.
From October to January, visitors may swim and boat on its down
streams. To reach this waterfall, you must trek through the lush
greenery surroundings.
8) Sula Vineyards (must visit in Nashik) –
As of late, Nashik has been known for its relaxed vacations amidst vineyards and large estates. Sula Vineyards
is one of the most well-known vineyards in the region. The vineyard,
which is identified as high-quality grapes, is available for tours where
you can try grape-stomping and enjoy some of the best wines.
The Sula vineyards’ USP is that it brews wines with an Indian

9) Ramshej Fort –

10) Vihigaon waterfall –
Vihigaon waterfall is a seasonal waterfall located in Vihigaon
village 13.5 kilometers from Igatpuri and 59 kilometers from Nashik.
This is one of Maharashtra’s most beautiful natural waterfalls, as well
as a favorite weekend retreat from Mumbai and Nashik.
Vihigaon Falls is a monsoon-fed waterfall with a stunning
naturalistic environment. The falls cascade into a pond at a height of
around 120 feet. The Vihigaon Waterfall, also known as Ashoka Waterfall,
is a deep jungle waterfall. The waterfall is breathtaking, and the
trail to it includes a short hike through a mountainous forest where
tourists might even go bird watching.
This desired adventure weekend escape may carry travelers away
from the hustle and bustle of city life and provide a rejuvenating
experience in the midst of nature. The waterfall is also famous for
being the location for most scenes in Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s
film Ashoka.
11) Shri Saptashrungi Gad –
Shri Saptashrungi Gad, about 60 kilometers from Nashik, is
4,659 feet above sea level. The name ‘Saptashrungi’ means seven horned
mountain peaks,’ and the site is appropriately called because it is
situated on a hill surrounded by seven peaks.
Goddess Bhagawati is said to have made her shelter in Shri
Saptashrungi Gad. The Goddess is carved out of natural rocks and is 8
feet high. The Goddess’ sculpture is a marvel to behold, with nine hands
on either side, each holding a different weapon and covered with gold
jewelry and wearing a high crown. She is supposed to have appeared
(swayambhu) on a mountain’s sheer face.
12) Gangapur Dam –
The Gangapur Dam is one of the most impressive attractions to
visit in Nashik. The Gangapur Dam, around 10 kilometers from Nashik’s
main city, is a wonderful tourist attraction. It was built in a
conventional way utilizing stones, clay, mud, and sand and was completed
in 1954.
In the middle of a picturesque environment, the Gangapur Dam
Boat Club is a great picnic location. Come here with your friends and
family to adore Mother Nature and to see the many bird species.
Furthermore, if you enjoy photography, you should definitely use your
cameras to record this flawless beauty.

14) Harihar Fort (best trek in Nashik) –
Nashik, Maharashtra’s Harihar Fort is a historical site. It’s a
perfect place to visit if you’re looking for a quick getaway in the
woods; the lush green and stunning vistas provide a stress-relieving
punch for hikers. As an outcome, it is widely known as one of the best
places to visit in Nashik, Maharashtra. You may find an incredible view
of Mother Nature’s extended hilltop from the peak of Harihar fort. Many
more forts may be seen in the vicinity of Nashik. The Harihar fort hike
is challenging despite its narrowness.
You can reach there from Ghoti and Nashik City by car in 40 km, while Igatpuri is a 48 km drive.

16) Windmills Sinnar, Nashik –
The Windmills
are located in Sinnar, Mohadari Ghat, and are as calm and peaceful as

this place embraces the allure of nature in a sense that no other can.

17) Brahmagiri Hill –

Brahmagiri is a mountain just beside Trimbakeshwar in the
Western Ghats of Maharashtra, located 3 kilometers from Trimbakeshwar
Bus Station and 31 kilometers from Nashik. At an altitude of 1,298
meters.
In Maharashtra, the monsoon provides a wide array of hiking
choices. There are several treks that you may go on during the monsoon
season. With the carpet of lush greenery covering the mountains,
everything appears to be incredibly green.
It’s also raining heavily, but that’s part of the pleasure – being wet in the rain and continuing to walk.
However, one location is Brahmagiri, which is located near

Sri Dharmachakra Prabhav Tirth is a lovely Jain Temple located
near Viholi village on the Nashik – Mumbai Road, 15 kilometers from
Nashik Central Bus Station. This is a prominent place of pilgrimage in
Nashik and one of the top tourist attractions in Nashik. A huge and magnificent structure known as the Jain Temple
is a recent addition to Nashik’s religious realm. The building has three
levels and is mostly made of white marble and pink sandstone. The
12-tonne huge deity of the Jains’ 24th Thirthankara can be found here.
20) Nandur Madhmeshwar (Birds Sanctuary in Nashik) –
The Nandur Madhmeshwar Bird Sanctuary, nestled in Niphad
Taluka, is home to 220 different bird species, as well as a few wild
animals. The sanctuary is a fantastic wetland habitat for wetland birds
and migratory birds, as well as the finest spot in Nashik for bird
lovers around the world.
To capture these rare yet lovely moments with these foreign
birds, bird lovers and photographers travel to the magnificent
sanctuary. Unlike their typical pattern, the birds across several

21) Igatpuri Hill Station –

the state’s major cities. Igatpuri is a hill station and city in

the Mumbai-Agra National Highway.
The hill station is surrounded by lush green and the majestic Western
Ghat Range, and it features enticing cascades and historic forts. This
mountainous town is particularly popular with nature lovers and

22) Umbrella Falls, Bhandardara –
Umbrella Falls is a magnificent seasonal waterfall near the
Bhandardara Dam in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district. It is one of the
greatest waterfalls in Maharashtra and one of the top places to visit in
Bhandardara.
Water gushes out of a tiny gap at the Wilson dam’s northern end
during monsoons, forming the stunning Umbrella Falls. The water body is
also used to generate hydroelectric power. Tourists may get a complete
view of the waterfalls from the bridge, which is located directly below
it. The waterfalls are only accessible during the monsoon season when the dam is fully up and running.
The falls are about a 500-meter walk from Bhandardara Bus Station.
23) Flower Park / Garden in Nashik –
Although not a usual tourist attraction, it is well worth a visit.
The flower garden is built on the property of a nearby water park,

village theme park in Deolali. This is a kind of picnic spot with some

Every weekend, I would often just pack my bags and head to a nearby
mountain to hike in Sahyadris. This time the visit was to a small fort
in Northwest of Nashik city called Ramshej fort. The fort is about 3273
ft on Nashik – Peth road. The base village is Ashewadi.
This time on the weekend I decided to visit Ramshej fort along with 3
friends. we had planned an early morning trek to the place starting on
Saturday morning at 6 am by car from Nashik Road. The fort comes in easy
grade and not much effort is required to climb it but on reading the
history of the fort, It was quite interesting so I was sure the visit
would be equally worthwhile. So I was all backpacked on Saturday
morning, on my way with my travel buddies to explore and adventure yet
another place that had played an important part in our history.
At the base village of Aashewadi, the Ramshej Fort trek begins. The
trail begins with a concrete path, followed towards the end by stone
stairs and a steep rocky path. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the lush
green area below and the blue sky above while ascending. It takes about
an hour for the top of the fort to be reached.
We have finally started our trek to Ramshej. When we began trekking,
it was almost 7:00 AM. While trekking, clicking pictures & videos,
listening to good music, chitchatting, watching the stunning landscape
as we went up and up, we had a lot of fun. Beautiful views of the lakes,
dams, temples, trees, and villages around the fort were visible. We
shot all the lovely views as we could with our cameras and eyes.
In a large cave near the entrance of the fort, a temple dedicated to
Lord Ram is situated. Rest for a little while and immerse yourself in
the quiet environment. Potable water is contained in a cistern situated
near the temple. Broken steps lead to the top of the fort near the cave
temple.
A vast plateau with very little fortification is at the top of
Ramshej Fort. You’ll come across a few more temples here, some water
cisterns, the old building remains, rock-cut caves, and some ancient
ruins. Enjoy the wonderful bird’s-eye views of the picturesque locale
surrounding the fort when you are at the top.
The history behind Ramshej Fort
History has it that the fort was besieged by the army of Aurangzeb,
and the Maratha kingdom was threatened by his commanders saying that
they would conquer the fort in hours, but Sambhaji, the son of Shivaji
Maharaj, defied these attacks for 7 years. Thus, the Fort remained with
the Marathas for a longer time than the fighting lives of some of the
army commanders of Aurangazeb who believed that the fort would be taken
down in hours.
