जा सकी। क़रीब 500 सीढ़ियों की घुटने-तोड़ चढ़ाई है।
शांत और हरे भरे वातावरण का कुछ दिन रह कर आनंद लिया जा सकता है। बजट होटल
और मंहगे रिसोर्ट सभी तरह के ठिकाने उपलब्ध हैं। कसौली में पेट्रोल पम्प

सुखना लेक चंडीगढ़ के पास शिवालिक पहाड़ियों के तलहटी में है. यह झील तीन

जाता है। शिमला, सोलन और धर्मपुर से बसें या टैक्सियाँ भी मिलती हैं। होटल
साधारण और कम हैं क्यूँकि ज्यादा सैलानी नहीं आते। सेना के अलावा जनसंख्या
( 2001 ) लगभग छे हज़ार से कम थी। सुबाथू को सुपाटू या स्पाटू भी कहा जाता
है। कहते हैं कि महाभारत काल में यहाँ सुबाहू नाम का राजा था और कालांतर
में जगह का नाम सुबाथू पड़ गया।

कैंट की स्थापना एंग्लो-नेपाल युद्ध ( 1814 - 1816) जीतने के बाद हुई।
इससे पहले हिमाचल, गढ़वाल और कुमाऊँ के काफ़ी बड़े पहाड़ी इलाक़े पर नेपाल
के राजाओं का वर्चस्व था। लगान वसूलने में काफ़ी क्रूरता बरती जाती थी और
जनता में असंतोष था। इधर ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कम्पनी 1790 से लगातार नेपाल
पर दबाव डाल रही थी कि उन्हें नेपाल के रास्ते तिब्बत और चीन से व्यापार
करने का मौक़ा दिया जाए। परंतु सुनवाई नहीं हो रही थी क्यूँकि नेपाली दरबार के विचार में :

क़रीब 20 मिनट की कार यात्रा करके महाकाली मंदिर पहुंचा जा सकता है। कार
सीधे मंदिर के आँगन तक पहुँचा देती है। मंदिर की लोकेशन और वहाँ से दिखते
दृश्य लाजवाब हैं। हरे भरे पहाड़ों के बीच सफेद संगमरमर का बना मंदिर बहुत
